Major N.S. Phull, AMC is a retired major of the Indian Army, with 37 years of service and retired in 1977. On 1 November, he had stopped a police van seeking help from the mob that were busy burning and looting shops near Shiv Nagar Extension, Jail Road. The DCP (West), U.K. Katna told his men to put the major in the van where he was taken to Tilak Nagar police station. Eight other Sikhs and one Hindu were already confined to a room in the police station. Sub-inspector, Babu Lal then had the major give his licensed pistol in. The major was then beaten by the sub-inspector as well as policeman ASI Attar Singh and Khazan Singh as well as others. He suffered injuries to his right eye, back and right hand. The next day, the major was taken to Tis Hazari Cout and released on bail. He was implicated in false charges along with the other inmates.1

Another witness also testified that Babu Lal, ASI Policeman Khazan Singh and one other policeman were responsible for beating Sikhs in Tilak Nagar police station. Babu Lal, ASI ordered the burning of the beard of one of the Sikhs by candle. Another policeman, Sat Pal Saini that as Sikhs had shot the Prime Minister, they need to be taught a lesson.2

In Chand Nagar, Swaranjit Kaur’s husband, Harbir Singh, who owned a motor engine repair workhop was killed, along with Mohan Singh, Harban Singh and his son.3
