December 1984 election ad campaign
As part of the Congress Party’s election campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Arun Nehru. The ad campaign was run by ad agency, Rediffusion, which unleashed a communal campaign branding Sikhs as the energy, out to divide and destroy India. Part of the message, aimed at Sikhs read:
“Why should you smile uneasily at your next door neighbour just because he belongs to another community or speaks another language? Why should feel uncomfortable riding in a taxi driven by a taxi driver who belongs to another state?”
