Mobs raised the slogan ‘Wipe out every trace of Sikhs’. A mob numbering 800 gathered and doused Kalyan Singh with chemicals, setting him on fire. His son, Satnam Singh came out of the house to help his father and was hit by stones. The mob pieced his eyes with sharp iron rods and throw chemical powder over him as well, setting him on fire.

Nearby, Mohinder Singh was stabbed by a knife, his father was attacked by iron rods, and both were burnt to death as was the priest from the local Gurdwara. Mohinder Singh’s brother, Bhajan Singh was also burnt and would succumb to his injuries at the hospital, three days later.1

38-year-old property dealer, Balwant Singh was killed by an axe. His neighbours throw his body in front of his house. His widow, Jaspal Kaur identified the killers as locals.2
