Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission (1987).
I, Mohan Singh, aged about 54 years, S/o Bhai Ram Singh, R/o H.No.B-118, Kiran Garden, P.O. Uttam Nagar, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation and state and declare as under: –
1. On 1-11-84, at about 11 AM, I was informed by the wife of my neighbour Sant Singh that Non-Sikh mob had killed S. Gurcharan Singh and his son Pavitar Singh in their house at Matiala Road which have been looted and burnt alongwith their shop. After half an hour I saw that the house of S. Jasbir Singh who lives opposite Hanuman Mandir in the area was being looted by Non-Sikh and the house was then set on fire. At about 6 PM my neighbour S. Sant Singh asked me leave my house as the danger to our lives was ahead. I and my family left our house and hid in a vacant room nearby.
2. Throughout the night I had been hearing noises of shouts and unfriendly voices. On 2.11.84 at about 8 AM, I again heard noises and shouts, shouting that “Sardar Ki Kothi Ko Aag Lagado” “Looto, Diwali Manao.” The mob then broke open my doors and took away everything from my house. After that they set my house on fire. I was peeping through holes in the door from my hide out. The total damage to my property is more than Rs.3 ½ lakhs and my elder son lost property of Rs.1 ½ lakhs.
3. On 3.11.84, at about 9 AM Ram Niwas of village Matiala took us away to the Relief Camp at Hari Nagar where I and my family stayed for about two months and came back to our house on 1-11-84.
4. No police assistance was given to us for our protection. The police was loitering here and there and yet was not taking any action against the culprits. Culprits be punished.
