Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission (1987).

 I, Lajwanti widow of Mangal Singh aged 60 years, r/o A-1/321, Nand Nagri, Delhi. Presently residing at 98A, Tilak Vihar, New Delhi-18, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under: –

1.                  On 1.11.84 at about noon time there was commotion in our mohalla. Then we learnt that the Gurdwara situated on the other side of the Park had been set ablaze and people were being killed.

2.                  On 2.11.84 at about 7.00 am whole of our street was full of people. First they brick-batted our houses. These people had lathis with some sharp-edged weapons tied at one end. First, they strangulated my son Jagjit Singh and then beat me with lathis.

3.                  The people in the mob, besides weapon, had some kind of white powder which was highly inflammable. First they beat us and then set us ablaze by throwing that powder. They carried away some of the dead bodies in our own rickshaw. In all seventeen members of my joint family had been killed.

4.                  The person who pointed out our houses to the mob was Mangtoo who resides two three houses away from my house. The mob tore my shirt and snatched away my money purse which I tucked in the cord of my Salwar.

5.                  On 3.11.1984 we performed the funeral of semi-burnt dead bodies and went to Police Station at 9.00 pm under military escort. Immediately, thereafter we were escorted to the Nanaksar Camp.

6.                  Police did not help us at all. On the contrary the police incited the mob to attack us.
