Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission (1987).
I, Surjit Kaur aged about 50 years w/o S. Harban Singh r/o C-53, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements, Garhi, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: –
1. I alongwith my family was earlier residing in H.No.137, Block No.2, New Kichripur, Near Bus stop, Kalyanpuri, as a tenant at the relevant time.
2. On 31-10-84, the day Smt. Indira Gandhi was assassinated at about 10 PM my husband S. Harban Singh and myself went downstairs in the house of our landlord Shri Tulsi to see TV programme. There in his house the neighbourer owner of H.No.136 was also present. In the TV a slogan was heard, “Khoon Ka Badla Khoon.” Immediately owner of H.No.136 whose name I do not know but who can be identified by me asked Tulsi to turn us out of the house, we being Sikhs. One Police constable whom I can identify was also living in the same street. Immediately our landlord Tulsi and other residents of the locality threw us out of the house forcibly, except me.
3. That my son Balvinder Singh, aged about 22 yrs. and my husband Harban Singh were turned out of the house and they were proceeding to reach Lajpat Nagar. Before they were allowed to go they were clean shaven by Tulsi and neighbourer of H.No.136 and others.
4. That the moment they got out of the street, they were attacked by Tulsi, neighbourer owner of H.No.136 and other residents of the same street whom I can identify and my husband was killed by beating with lathis and iron rods at the spot. My son was severely beaten but somehow or other he could manage to run away from that place and he found one jeep of CRPF on the way who took him to Dhaula Kuan. He came back to the house of my daughter Bhupinder Kaur living in Lajpat Nagar at about Noon on 2-11-84. I also reached the house of daughter Bhupinder Kaur at about 1 PM and my son told all about it.
5. Police recorded some report subsequently but I do not know what is written in that report. My entire jewellery which was with my husband was looted.
6. I pray for action against the culprits and compensation to me.
