Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission (1987).
I, Surjeet Kaur Wd/o Gurbachan Singh, aged 35 yrs., R/o 13/136, Kalyanpuri, Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare on oath as under: –
1. That I am residing at the aforesaid address since 1974.
2. That on November 1st, 1984, at noon a strong group of about 2000 – 3000 persons armed with lathis, iron rods, spears etc. came to our locality. They were shouting Anti-Sikh slogans. The following persons whom I know personally at the head of this unlawful assembly: –
1) Dr. Ashok, an active Congress (I) worker of the area, r/o Kalyanpuri.
2) Tara, leader of Kanjars and an active Congress (I) worker of the area, Kalyanpuri.
3) Jai Narayan, r/o Kalyanpuri.
4) Dharampal, r/o Kalyanpuri.
The SHO of the area Mr. Tyagi was also with the mob. Instead of stopping the mob from indulging in the unlawful activities, he was instigating them to kill the Sikhs. I do not know the name of the other persons but can recognize them if produced before me.
3. That these people surrounded my house from all sides and stoned it heavily. My husband Gurbachan Singh had climbed on the roof of the house of save himself, but Jai Narayan managed to climb the roof and inflicted serious stab injuries upon my husband. Some other persons also climbed the roof and they all beat my husband mercilessly. They they threw him down and he died. I saw the whole incident with my own eyes. I was helpless against such a heavy mob. My daughter was seriously injured in the stone throwing and she died three days thereafter due to these injuries.
